Alabama offensive lineman Tommy Brown announces transfer destination

An Alabama offensive lineman has found a new home in the Pac-12.

Tommy Brown junior red shirt is transferred to Colorado, he announced Thursday morning. Brown was one of five Crimson Tide players to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday, a day after the national title game, and 10 days later found a new home.

After being redshirted in 2018, Brown played a combined 29 games over the next three seasons, including 11 last year. One of the best reserve linemen in each of the last two seasons, Brown started the New Mexico State game at left guard in place of an injured Javion Cohen.

A member of Alabama’s signing class of 2018, Brown was a 4-star freshman from Santa Ana, Calif. He was ranked 4th offensive guard, 17th player in California State and 132nd overall prospect in the 2018 cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Created in October 2018, the NCAA Transfer Portal allows college student-athletes to simply enter their name into an online database and wait for college teams to contact them. It should also be noted that players can also remove their name from the transfer portal.

Including Brown, 12 UA players entered the portal during or after the season. They were Marcus Banks (Mississippi State), Xavier Williams (Utah State), Pierce Quick (Georgia Tech), Jackson Bratton (UAB), Paul Tyson (Arizona State), Drew Sanders (Arkansas ), Jahleel Billingsley (Texas), King Mwikuta (Arkansas State), Jaylen Moody, Shane Lee and Javon Baker.

Eleven Tide players entered the portal last year, nine of which transferred to Power 5 schools and Mwikuta elected to remove his name from the portal and remain in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Mwikuta chose to enter his name in the transfer portal for the second time on Tuesday.
