Auburn OL coach Will Friend talks spring and youth development

AUBURN, Alabama — With seniors Nick Brahms, Brandon Council and Austin Troxell out of team drills this spring as they recover from off-season surgeries, coach Will Friend was able to get plenty of reps for some of the most inexperienced players in Auburn’s offensive line room. With Kam Stutts, Tate Johnson, Avery Jernigan and Kilian Zierer some of the players he picked for improvement, Friend talks about spring and what it’s been like for offensive linemen in this video.

“I think there’s good and bad,” Friend said. a year ago, but it allowed us to have a lot of younger guys, they had to do a bit more rehearsals. It was a plus because we need to develop some depth in the room.

“We have guys who have probably improved this spring and made a huge leap. Kam Stutts had a very good spring. Tate Johnson has done very well. Avery Jernigan has improved. Kilian was able to get more reps to fill the spots that were going. It helped him and he got better. Some guys managed to do jumps that were important to us.
