A four-star defensive lineman the Tigers are targeting is expected to announce his signing soon.
2023 rookie Daevin Hobbs, who officially traveled to Auburn on June 17, announced via Twitter that he would announce his engagement on August 1 at 6:30 a.m. Auburn is one of several teams Hobbs is considering, but it could be difficult for Bryan Harsin and the staff to land his commitment earlier this month.
The good news is that Hobbs himself told On3 that Auburn was a “better option” the day after he visited, which bodes well for Auburn fan hopes. The bad news, however, is that 247Sports is strongly projecting Hobbs to pick North Carolina in the ACC — a school in his home state.
It looks increasingly like the Tigers will have had to really impress Hobbs during his visit and in the weeks since to land him, but it should be interesting to see where he ends up going regardless. Auburn could definitely use the talent, as the Tigers have offered 33 different defensive linemen with no commitments from any of them. Harsin has come under pressure from fans and critics for his lack of recruiting prowess, but winning over Hobbs could be a big step forward for his potential to silence them.
