Columbia, South Carolina – Mildred Ann Scott was born on April 29, 1935 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Maggie Chavis Scott. After a brief but long illness, God reached out and called her home on April 1, 2022, to her home in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mildred was educated in the Richland County Public Schools. She graduated from CA Johnson High School in 1953. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Allen University and a Master of Science in Education from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. Mildred was employed at Craft Farrow State Hospital and later became an elementary special education teacher at Kershaw County and Richland County Schools.
Mildred attended Pine Grove Baptist Church in Eastover, South Carolina, and in her later years attended Zion Cannon Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Some of his favorite times were traveling with several of his classmates on various vacations.
Mildred, known as “Aunt Mickey”, was a caring, humorous and loving person. She was a shopaholic and a traveler. She had a quick wit and could tell you about daily news and how it relates to history.
She is predeceased by her son Roland Scott; sisters, Mrs. Addie Lee Argroe and Mrs. Margaret Scott Banks; brother, Mr. Kenmaynard Scott; and his brothers-in-law, Mr. Paul Argroe and Mr. Benjamin L. Banks.
Mildred leaves behind fond memories of her nieces, Rosie M. (Phillip) Berry of Augusta, Georgia, Avondale Banks Simons, Teresa Ann (James) Brown, Vonda K. (Sherman) Van Dyke of Columbia, SC; nephews, Edward Scott of Columbia, SC and Kenmaynard Scott of North Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Marion Scott of Columbia, SC; and a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Serenity Gardens, 6601 Windwan Drive, Columbia, SC 29209.
