It’s a mixed bag this season in the trenches when you’re looking at returning from experience. There are many inside while not so many on the edge.

First and foremost, Mississippi State faces the daunting task of replacing the NFL’s first-round draft pick. Charles Cross at the left tackle position. In the spring, the top two candidates included seniors Kwatrivous Johnson and second Percy Lewis. Both worked with the first-team offense in the spring, and Johnson has mostly worked as a goaltender in previous seasons.

Mississippi State will also have a new starter at right tackle. Senior KameronJones and freshman in red shirt Albert Reese got most of those reps in spring training. Jones has worked at right tackle before, but most of his starting experience has been at offensive guard.

Fortunately, the eldest La Quinston Sharp returns to center after earning a sixth year of NCAA eligibility. Middle Tennessee State Transfer Steven Losoya is in the mix as a center backup and guard, and Losoya even worked at good tackle in the spring.

Reed purchasesa junior freshman and red shirt Canon Boone should also compete in the center. So far Boone has recovered from surgery in the offseason and has missed time in camp, 2022 signee Lucas Taylor enters the mix on the offensive line, likely at center.

In the same way KameronJones at guard, Mississippi State returns junior Nick Jones and senior Cole Smith inside the line. Jones worked with the first team in the spring at left guard while Smith missed the spring ball due to injury.

Freshman in red shirt Gabe Cavazos and second grant jackson are also competing to help depth at guard positions. With Taylor, the signatories of 2022 Jackson’s cannon (guard) and Jakxon LaHue (tackle) will experience their first collegiate training camp this month.

For some time, KameronJones and Albert Reese played right tackle and right guard respectively with the first team.
