Name removal | Joan Eads Named Acting Executive Director of Fishwise – Santa Cruz Sentinel

FishWise announced this week that Joan Eads has been named interim executive director of the nonprofit sustainable seafood consultancy. With over 25 years of experience leading nonprofit organizations, Eads is renowned for helping organizations excel and attract the best leadership candidates during leadership transitions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joan on board,” said Ashley Greenley, director of FishWise’s business engagement division in a prepared statement. “His extensive experience leading nonprofits will be invaluable in providing continuity and positioning FishWise for an exciting new chapter in the organization.

FishWise has grown from a small, grassroots organization to a respected global leader in seafood sustainability.

Morley promoted

Bay Federal Credit Union announced this week the promotion of Brooke Morley to senior vice president, chief product officer. Morley will oversee all of the organization’s product development, as well as the credit union’s deposit, lending and card service departments, according to a statement from the credit union.

Morley previously worked for Bay Federal from 2008 to 2014, when she served as assistant vice president of loans. She moved to Southern California with her family where she led loan teams with various credit unions. In early 2021, she joined Bay Federal full-time as Vice President of Asset Management.

In his new role, Morley will bring an integrated approach to the credit union‘s suite of deposit, lending and card services, leveraging the best of technology and enhancing the member experience.

Emily Benito, of Santa Cruz, has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2021 semester at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Kelly Philipovitch, of Santa Cruz, has been named to the president’s slate for the fall 2021 semester at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Chopra and Dunn graduate

The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to approximately 4,900 undergraduate and graduate students during the institute’s 261st launch exercises Dec. 17-18. Two Santa Cruz County residents were among the honorees.

• Talia Chopra, of Capitola, earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

• Ryan Dunn, of Santa Cruz, earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Security goods donated

Kaiser Permanente’s $22 million donation in safety products – masks, PPE, disinfectants, etc. – is distributed in Santa Cruz County and Northern California, in partnership with SupplyBank.org. The Community Action Council of Santa Cruz County Organizations, First Five and the Santa Cruz County Office of Education are receiving the donations now, according to a statement from Kaiser.
