Here is the July 17 edition of the Daily Recap presented by JFQ Lending.
The role of Groves-Killebrew
Cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew (Brookwood / Snellville, GA) was the first player to enter the Georgia class of 2022. In an interview with Jed May, Groves-Killebrew explained how the coaching staff plan to use it, at least at this stage of their evaluation.
“They always tell me how I’m going to be used, how they see my place in their program and stuff,” Groves-Killebrew said. “It’s more about bonding with them, getting to know them even more.”
Groves-Killebrew signed on in Georgia on May 27, 2020. In January, former high school coach Charlton warren took over as defensive coordinator in Indiana. However, after Georgia hired Jahmile Addae to replace Warren, the spirit of Groves-Killebrew was comfortable with the transition.
“When I spoke to Coach Addae I felt better,” said Groves-Killebrew. “I could tell he was very passionate, a very good coach.”
Kanak impressed with UGA facilities
Four-star linebacker Jaren Kanak (Hays / Hays, Kansas) visited Georgia with Clemson, Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida, Kansas State and Alabama. However, with Georgia the facilities were something that certainly stood out.
“Almost all of these programs are going to have great facilities, but them (Georgia) especially,” Kanak said. “They just finished building a brand new $ 80 million facility, with more to come, so obviously their facilities are top of the line right now and probably some of the best in the country, so it really is. very attractive. At the same time they back it up with the relationships and the way they communicate. I felt really welcome there and like they were really, you know, invested in me. “
Kanak detailed where things stand with Georgia in his recruiting.
“I mostly spoke with (Glenn) Schumann and (Dan) LanningKanak said. “It has been good. We spoke as a couple, three times a week. You just have to stay consistent, but nothing too crazy because everyone is sort of on vacation right now. “
Reaction of the booker
May and Blayne Gilmer reacted to offensive lineman Tyler Booker’s (IMG Academy / Bradenton, Fla.) Decision to enlist in Alabama, while discussing what it means for UGA recruiting for the position.
Reclassification of class 2007
Patrick Garbin continued his revisionist history streak by reclassifying the 2007 recruiting class. This class saw a top five made up, in order, of tight ends Aron Blanc, defensive tackle Jarius wynn, offensive lineman Justin anderson, return Caleb King and wide receiver Israel Troop.
Looking back, Garbin ranked the top five in this class, in order, as an outside linebacker. Justin houston, offensive lineman Clint Boling, linebacker Rennie Curran, punter Drew butler and Anderson.
Butler made the biggest jump, going from No.23 to No.4. Boling was next, dropping from No.16 to No.2. Troop fell the furthest, passing from No.5 to No.16.
Always a bulldog
Ben watson is the last former Georgian football player to become a broadcaster. Watson, who retired from the NFL after 16 seasons, will begin this new career with the SEC network.
“Whatever I’ve always done throughout my career, I’ve always tried to represent my guys, my family, my name. But I also tried to represent my university, ”Watson said in a phone interview with UGASports. “Wherever I’ve been, it’s always been something that I’ve kept in mind. When I look at the landscape of successful broadcasters, it’s always exciting to watch them and to cheer them on. Now I can join the ranks and my fellow Bulldogs cheer me on. It’s exciting to be a part of this family and to join ESPN in this capacity.
Although he hasn’t made any predictions, Watson is confident in the direction the Georgia program is taking.
“I’m like the whole Bulldog Nation, we want to win it all,” Watson said. “What excites me this year is that we are strong as a quarterback, unlike last year, when there were moving elements. In particular, the time it took to figure out that JT Daniels was the guy. I’m excited about the momentum we’re going to have.
